About the Digital Pound Foundation

The Digital Pound Foundation (DPF) was first launched in 2021 as an independent non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing the UK as a leading global centre for development and adoption of new forms of digital money, whether that’s in the form of central bank digital currencies (CBDC), stablecoins, tokenised deposits, or otherwise.

We explore both public and private forms of digital money and support the development of a diverse, effective and competitive ecosystem that promotes choice and is trusted, transparent, secure and safe.

Our aim is to advance the UK as a leading global centre for the development and adoption of new forms of digital money, whether that is in the form of central bank digital currencies, stablecoins, tokenised deposits, or otherwise.

Following the announcement of our intended merger in December 2024, as of XDATE the Digital Pound Foundation now forms part of Innovate Finance, operated as a dedicated premium independent programme that is available to a selection of our members who wish to engage in our digital payments and money exploration and policy work.

Mission and Objectives

The Digital Pound Foundation’s mission is to advocate for the creation of digital money and payments in the UK that aligns with the principles of innovation, inclusion and resilience. By promoting open dialogue, conducting research, and engaging with policymakers, the DPF aims to:

Foster financial inclusion by expanding access to digital money.

Support the transition to a sustainable financial system through transparency and accountability.

Collaborated on UK Policy Development:
Contributing to public consultations, calls for evidence, and whitepapers on the development and introduction of CBDCs, stablecoins, and e-money - providing UK regulators and policymakers with expert insights from the private sector.

Published Research and Insights:
Publishing reports exploring the design, implementation, and societal impact of a digital Pound, highlighting the role of emerging technologies such as blockchain in enabling unprecedented use cases and efficiencies.

Promoted Financial Education:

The Digital Pound Foundation with the support of Innovate Finance continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital money in the UK. As the Bank of England and HM Treasury move closer to decisions on the implementation of a digital Pound, introducing a UK framework for stablecoin, and implementing the UK’s National Payments Vision, the Foundation remains committed to ensuring that the UK is a leading centre for innovation that supports a dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable economy.
